Televisions How times have changed.
Not so long ago the only thing you had to know about televisions, when you wanted to buy one, was the size of the television screen. Most people didnt even know that they measured the televisions screen size on the diagonal. You had your favourite brand, Panasonic, Philips, GEC etc and then you went for looks. You matched the television cabinet with the furnishing in the room.
Televisions have come a long way since those days. Nowadays we have access to an abundance of information on all aspects of televisions. With the advent of the internet we can find information on about anything we want to know about televisions. We can compare prices, we can compare after sales service and we can compare specifications.
We can go into a store and take a look at an LG 4 inch plasma television and a Samsung 42 inch LCD television, we can listen to the sales attendant and if we still cant make up our minds we can go online and get all the information on both televisions again. This time however, any terminologies that we didnt understand in the store or online, we can do a simple search and get a simple translation into human speak.
I wanted a 42 inch flat screen television. I wanted a Sony television because we always had Sony. The television I was replacing was a 36 inch monster; it weighed in at 85 kilo and took up half the lounge. So going for a 42 inch screen, I thought was going up in the world, sports and films being our television preference.
Going online I did a search for Sony 42 inch television and there were hundreds of pages. There was a lot of terminology like refresh rates, Hertz, HD, HD ready, plasma gas, pixels, fire wire, analogue and s-video and a whole lot more. So I went to the high street armed with a lot of questions, mainly what did the above mean. I walked out with an LG 42 inch Plasma TV, 600 hertz, 720 HD built in free view and plenty of external ports. Because it is a HD plasma television they also sold me a blu-ray player.
The result is that I now know a lot more about televisions and I'm very happy with my purchases.
