Home Cinema
The definition of Home Cinema is to replicate the sound and feel of the cinema in your own front room. There are a various extents and degrees you can go to in the home cinema experience, the options are endless.
What do you need for a home cinema?
The end result will depend on the quantity and quality of the home cinema equipment you purchase, which will be determined by your budget, also in the way you set your home cinema up.
Sound is one of the most important elements in the home cinema experience so you are going to need the best home cinema sound system your budget allows. The sound system for a home cinema consists of a pro-logic surround sound amplifier. The amplifier interprets the audio signals from the source (TV, DVD, Blu-Ray DVD, video, radio) and sends the signals to various speakers. You can have 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound in your home cinema. 5.1 incorporates five speakers, 3 at the front (left, centre and right), 2 surround speakers positioned at the rear but on the left and right side and a sub woofer (which can be placed anywhere in the room as it is non directional). A home cinema system with 7.1 surround sound has an extra 2 speakers at the back (left and right).
There are many home cinema pro-logic surround sound amplifiers from Sony, Panasonic, Philips, Yamaha, LG to Samsung to name a few. You can purchase your amplifier and speakers as a complete system or you can buy separates, that’s where you buy a Yamaha amplifier and Samsung speakers.
Another important element in the home cinema experience is the screen. Do you go for a video projector and cinema screen or do you go for an LCD TV, or a Plasma TV or an LED TV?
For a true cinema experience a projector and screen would be the answer but with TV’s getting larger and larger and at the same time cleaner and crisper the decision becomes more of a preference. If you go for a projector you and you want to watch TV you will need a TV Tuner as well. If your preference is a TV you will have to decide between LCD and Plasma and to a lesser extent LED. You will also have to decide on size. Remember that the size of a TV is measured on the diagonal not on the width.
