Bluray
So you have a 42” plus HD TV and you want to watch films with the best HD picture possible, then what you need is a Blu-Ray disk player hooked up to the TV.
Blu-ray is the next generation of the optical DVD format. It has been developed by a consortium of hi tech manufacturers that include Philips, Sony, Apple, Dell, LG, Panasonic, Samsung, and TDK to mention but a few.
Blu-ray was developed so that we can record and play hi definition video. On computers blu-ray discs are used for data storage as they hold over five times the amount of data than a normal DVD.
There are lots of technical reasons why Blu-ray is so much better than DVD, the main reason is that blu-ray uses a blue – violet laser as opposed to a red laser and the blue laser has a shorter wavelength so it can be finely tuned into an even narrower focus beam than a red laser.
As far as you and me are concerned, if you have a home cinema system with surround sound 5.1 or even better 7.1 and you like watching films you will want the best possible picture you can get and at the moment that is Blu-ray.
Most of the leading manufactures make Blu-ray players, readers and recorders. Prices vary from model to model, company to company. You can buy any brand of blu ray player from a Panasonic blu ray player to a Samsung blu ray player, it doesn’t matter, the blu ray technology will be the same, what does matter and what differentiates one brand from another is the build quality, the quality of the laser and the quality of the components that go into the making of the blu ray player.
All new film releases from Hollywood today can be bought on blu ray. Older films are also being re-released on blu ray and those that aren’t available now are sure to follow soon.
Blu ray is not just play and view medium, you can record onto blu ray. In order to record on blu ray you need a blu ray recorder. A blu ray recorder like its DVD predecessor can record from a multitude of media such as TV, audio systems and computer systems. If a TV program is recorded from a TV channel broadcast in HD, on a blu ray recorder onto a blu ray disc, you will be able to watch that recording through any blu ray player and experience the same HD quality.
